Frequently asked questions
Short, concrete and based on real projects.
-
Which sealant is right for my job?
Depending on the application we use neutral silicones (mould-resistant), hybrid/PU sealants or acrylic – stone-safe and compliant with EN 15651 and DIN 18540.
-
What joint width and depth are optimal?
Rule of thumb: joint width ≈ 2× joint depth, always with backing rod. Exact dimensions depend on movement and the manufacturer’s system approval.
-
When is a primer required?
On absorbent or very smooth substrates (e.g. concrete, metal, natural stone) as specified by the system. Primer ensures adhesion without edge failure.
-
How does joint refurbishment work?
Remove old sealant completely, clean and prime the substrate, mask, re-seal, tool the bead and finally perform inspection and handover with a short report.
-
Mould in the shower – what to do?
Remove the old joint, disinfect the area and install a neutral-cure silicone with fungicide. Also improve ventilation and cleaning routines.
-
How long is the curing time?
Skin forms after about 10–30 minutes, curing is approx. 2–3 mm per 24 hours. Wet areas are usually usable again after around 24 hours.
-
Windows/façade – airtight and rainproof?
Basic principle: airtight on the inside, driving-rain tight on the outside. Details follow the approved system and connection design.
-
Firestop joints – what documentation do I get?
We use VKF/ETA-approved systems and provide a position list, photo documentation and system data sheet; based among others on EN 1366-4.
-
Balcony/terrace – frost and UV resistance?
For exterior areas we use UV, frost and de-icing-salt resistant systems and design movement joints to relieve the coverings in the long term.
-
Industrial floors/car parks – which systems?
Dust-free preparation, suitable primers and—depending on chemical and traffic load—epoxy, PU, polyurea or proprietary joint profile systems.
-
How do you calculate the price?
We price by linear metres and chosen system. Factors: joint size, substrate, height/scaffolding, access and urgency. Fixed-price quotes are available.
-
Which regions do you cover and how fast are appointments?
We mainly work in the Lucerne, Zürich and Zurich regions – larger projects across Switzerland. Express appointments subject to availability.
-
Do you provide warranty and care guidance?
Yes. Warranty according to offer/contract and current best practice. Proper care and maintenance intervals significantly extend the service life.
